Maternity Favorites + Must-haves

No matter your pregnancy experience(s), growing a baby is hard work. So I’m sharing a few of my favorite pregnancy/maternity items – and some postpartum must-haves, too on today’s post 🙂

Favorite maternity clothing for that growing belly + more…

Fabletics High-Waisted PureLuxe Maternity 7/8

I’ve been a Fabletics customer for years – and I absolutely LOVE these maternity leggings WITH POCKETS!! I swear I don’t think I could ever purchase another pair of pocketless leggings again…

Fabletics also just released a new maternity collection – FYI!

Maternity True Waistband Full Panel Destructed Skinny Ankle Jeans

Honestly, I only wear one pair of maternity jeans and they’re a pair that was handed down to me from a good friend – and they’re from The Gap. I LOVE them.

Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Women’s Maternity Mid-Rise Shortie Shorts

I love these comfortable maternity jean shorts – a great quality pair and nice fit.

Another great over-the belly jean short option that’s slightly more affordable are these shorts from HOFISH – they come in more colorways, too!

V VOCNI Maternity Women’s Maternity Indigo Blue Mom Tassel Secret Underbelly Denim Shorts

For those of you who prefer an under-the-belly option instead. I usually prefer over-the-belly bottoms, but variety is the spice of life as they say 😉

Foucome Maternity Yoga Shorts Over The Belly Pregnancy Workout Running Active Athletic Shorts

These (MORE POCKETS!) comfortable shorts are also a great option to purchase on Amazon.

Birdies – The Starling Shoe

A comfortable pair of flats is a necessity for achy and often swollen pregnancy feet. I received my first pair of Birdies as a gift over the holidays and I am OBSESSED. They’re so comfortable, I wear them all day long. I just recently ordered another pair in this neutral “latte suede” color so they go with everything!

HOFISH 3PACK Full Bust Seamless Nursing Maternity Bras

These maternity + nursing bras from HOFISH are incredible. I’ve basically been living in these for years now and I don’t ever want to give them up. They surprisingly give plenty of support while also being super comfy AND they’re affordable!

*These also come with bra extenders and clips!

Intimate Portal Maternity Underwear

Another favorite. The perfect simple cotton maternity panties. 6 pack for $20

Belevation Maternity Shapewear

I use these less for actual shape wear purposes and more so to wear under dresses in the summer/warmer months to avoid uncomfortable thigh chafing…you know what I mean. These are light weight and comfortable and of course are also great for smoothing out any lines under your clothing – perfect for those maternity photos, too!

Bust Support Chemise

Okay so this isn’t *technically* a maternity-specific item but I LOVE these nightgown chemises and have worn them for years – throughout pregnancy, too. They offer the best bust support I’ve found in a nightgown and are so soft and silky.

Clea Bamboo Classic Long Sleeve Sleep Shirt

This one was recommended by a friend, the material is super soft and comfy, a great option for sleep and to wear around the house, too!

Liu & Qu Women’s Maternity Bodycon Ruched Side Dress

I have this dress in numerous colors + sleeve length configurations. It’s a perfect everyday comfortable staple to have in your closet.

A few more notes about maternity clothing:

  • I found many of my favorite maternity clothes online from ASOS. It definitely took some digging at times but I felt they had a lot of really stylish options in their maternity section. This is where I found most of my formal / special occasion maternity attire.
  • Target, Amazon, Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy have a lot of maternity styles that are reasonably priced. They’re usually my go-to’s for basics.
  • There are many other maternity clothing brands out there: Hatch, Ingrid and Isabel, Kindred Bravely, Pink Blush, Seraphine, A Pea in the Pod – to name a few. Search around to find styles that suit your needs and personality.

For all those aches, pains and fun pregnancy side-effects…

Crystallized Ginger

You should be able to find this lifesaver at most grocers. This is my go-to for nausea and heartburn!

Yogi Ginger Tea

Another wonderful option to help with indigestion, nausea and heartburn. I am typically a Traditional Medicinals tea fan, but this Yogi Ginger tea really packs the right punch of ginger to make a difference for me.

Tip: Be sure to squeeze the bag after it steeps by wrapping it around a spoon to get all the gingery goodness out of there.

Metamucil

IYKYK.

Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Acupressure Wristband

Another amazing product I’ve found to help with morning sickness + nausea that doesn’t require you to eat or drink anything!

TOLOCO Massage Gun

Having a massage gun on hand has been a wonder during pregnancy. Quickly massage away those knots and tight spots in your legs, back, feet…wherever!

32 oz Mug Tumbler

My go-to emotional support water bottle. This DISHWASHER SAFE(!!) 32 oz jug is how I keep myself hydrated throughout the day – pregnant or not.

Maternity Belt, Belly Band

These belly bands are so supportive. As your bump continues to grow and get heavier, this gives the extra support you need.

Physix Gear Sport Compression Socks

These compression socks are great – not only for swollen preggy feetsies but also really important to use when traveling / flying to help with blood flow and circulation. I always have a pair (or two) with me when I fly.

Pregnancy Pillow

I LOVEEEEEE my pregnancy pillow. It has helped me get through some rough nights – especially as pregnancy progresses and you get larger and larger and more uncomfortable. This thing is amazing.

**Tip: Use two king size pillow cases on either end of the pregnancy pillow. Much easier to change + clean than removing and reapplying the main cover every week.

Favorite Apps…

Ovia Pregnancy App

There are many pregnancy tracking apps out there – and if I’m being honest I have most of them downloaded to my phone. But Ovia’s pregnancy app is my favorite for baby size tracking because it offers some fun alternatives to the typical fruit comparisons – including Parisian Bakery, Weird-but-cute Animals, and Fun & Games themes. Of course it also offers helpful articles, checklists, and reminders…but I’m really there to find out if my baby is an éclair or a crêpe suzette 😛

Maple

Do yourself (and your family) a favor and get started on this app early. Maple is a comprehensive household management app that offers solutions to coordinating chores, tracking bills and expenses, organize appointments, coordinate home projects, plan family trips and events, organize kids’ activities, plan weekly meals…the lists and topics you can cover with this app go on and on. You can also create a topic for your pregnancy and/or your newborn to track milestones, appointments, feeding schedules, etc. The sooner you get acquainted with all this app has to offer, the better. It’s completely free – and they offer a marketplace showcasing special deals from partnership companies featuring everything from baby gear to financial planning.

Beauty + Skincare items…

15 Minute Beauty

This isn’t one specific product, but I wanted to share my go-to resource for pregnancy-safe beauty products. This comprehensive blog is authored by a Pediatric Critical Care doctor who takes a deep-dive into individual beauty products by almost all beauty brands out there to ensure she notates what products are considered safe for pregnancy and for breastfeeding.

You can search through her website for brand-specific pages with lists of their safe / unsafe products + the reasons why – but I’m sharing the link above to her Pregnancy skincare introduction page to get you started.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Pregnancy Stretch Marks

There is really no way to say for certain that this will keep you from getting any stretch marks on your belly…but this super creamy and gentle formula felt so good to rub on every day after my shower and kept me well moisturized!

Bio-Oil Skincare Oil

Another wonderful product meant to help keep skin glowy, moisturized and improve appearance of stretch marks and scars. I started using this after my c-section and I’ve definitely seen improvement in my scar. It also has a very gentle sweet scent that I love.

A few postpartum favorites, too…

Electric Heating Pad

Okay so I actually used this much more in my postpartum days – but this heating pad is amazing to help soothe all those pregnancy + postpartum aches and pains!

Compression Gloves

Another postpartum necessity for me. I was not expecting it, but I had severe postpartum swelling and bad pain in my wrists and hands for weeks following the delivery of my daughter. It was so painful, especially at night. These gloves and these wrist braces helped tremendously.

Molasus Women’s Cotton Underwear High Waisted Full Coverage Ladies Panties

These are my go-to postpartum panties. They offer the right amount of support as your belly slowly returns to a somewhat smaller state after birth. They’re comfortable and breathable, highly recommend!

Maximum Absorbency Maternity Pads

I know everyone has different preferences, but I personally LOVED the giant super-absorbent pads that were given to me in the hospital. I searched around to order some that were just like them and these were great. I preferred having something substantial on while dealing with postpartum bleeding, it just made me feel more secure.

Mesh Postpartum Underwear

Another hospital-style favorite of mine. Again, I know some women prefer to wear something like depends or other postpartum underwear options but I really loved what they gave me at the hospital and these were the closest match I could find online. Super soft, breathable, stretchy and disposable.

Medline Squirt Bottle

I know there are new, angle-necked peri bottles out there… but once again I preferred the classic style from the hospital. This 3-pack is only $6.99

Soothic Sitz Bath

There are many sitz bath options but this is the one I found and I really like it.

Absorbent Towels

Only putting these on here (I assume you already have towels at home) to note that I experienced extreme postpartum night sweats for weeks after the birth of my daughter. Some women won’t experience this, but I felt completely unprepared and was unaware that this was a fairly common postpartum side effect. It was so uncomfortable – I would soak almost the entire (king sized) bed sheet in one night….and like I said, this went on for weeks. Something we found to be super helpful was putting a few big towels down UNDERNEATH our fitted sheet on my side of the bed. This made a huge difference – both for my comfort and for that of my husband.
