Miss Mariss Decorates

Our family celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas, so I love this time of year! We have a unique opportunity to mix the two holidays and cultures together to create our own family traditions.

I like to have a special area of the home that’s defined for Hanukkah to make it stand out and special. I have chosen to use the bar area that separates our kitchen/family dining area from our family room. There is a big countertop space for my display and it’s perfect for gathering around as a family to light the candles on the Hanukkiah. You’ll notice in my display I’ve included some gorgeous pieces I’ve found from different shops – I’ll link all items below!

As Christmas is the more commercialized holiday, it’s much easier to find lovely holiday pieces almost anywhere. Many of our Christmas decorations have been slowly collected over the years, often from tiny shops in different areas we’ve traveled. However, there are a few pieces we’ve found from larger retailers that I can also link below.

I hope you like our blended holiday decor, please comment below if you have any questions or if you’d like to share how you style your home for the holidays!

One special decor tradition…

Our Travel Tree

One special thing we enjoy doing every year is putting up our “Travel Tree”. This little tree is usually in our family room and we decorate it with ornaments we’ve picked up while traveling. We try to purchase an ornament whenever we go somewhere as a wonderful keepsake. A few of my favorite are the little stuffed puffin from Iceland, the handmade lace Kitten from Bruges and the golden pineapple from Colonial Williamsburg.

Favorite decorations & where to find them

Peace Love Light Shop

I’ve purchased MANY pieces from this gorgeous online shop – I think they offer the most lovely Judaica I’ve found. I love the star votives and this beautiful table runner. The little gold and silver dreidels I’ve used to fill dishes for decor are so beautiful, but they sell out quickly.

See’s Candies

I love incorporating chocolate treats into my decor whenever I can, so these Hanukkah chocolates from See’s Candies were the perfect addition. I’ve included their milk chocolate gold Hanukkah gelt and their dark chocolate silver balls to add to our decorative (and edible) tablescape.

Target

Target has quite a few beautiful pieces available for Hanukkah this year! I love the beautiful gold floral Hanukkah menorah and the dreidel-themed serving platter.

Mark & Graham

Our family loves all the amazing customizable options available at Mark & Graham. These gorgeous quilted stockings were first introduced to us by Mark’s mother. She gave Mark and me a personalized stocking on Christmas eve in 2014 a few days before we got engaged. We love them so much we’ve kept the tradition going and have added a new stocking as our family has grown -including a stocking for each of our kitties!

Other odds + ends

I’ve included a few more items available online below, but my best advice is to pick up decorative items as you see them while you’re out and about. Obviously, that’s difficult this year but keep it in mind for next year. Most of my favorite pieces are ones I’ve found in little shops while traveling. Those pieces mean the most because they bring back memories of our travels and adventures.

Remember, there’s no wrong way to decorate for the holidays, just go with whatever speaks to you and your individual style!
